Pakistan Peoples Party parliamentary leader in the Senate, Sherry Rehman has invited Saleem Safi who conducts, Jirga with Saleem Safi on Geo TV, to discuss the recently concluded visit of the Saudi crown prince, Mohammad bin Salman (MBS).
Sherry is quick to start the conversation, “Did you see how small-minded Imran Khan is, and leave alone his lack of etiquette, not just him, even the president he has gotten elected did not know how to deliver a formal speech.
“This is unprecedented that the opposition leaders were not invited to the two official dinners…”
Safi asks, “What do you think led to this? Was it an oversight?”
Sherry responds, “No. It was sheer small-mindedness. Imran Khan is afraid of being dwarfed by political giants like our co-chairmen Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Asif Ali Zardari. He was even afraid of being dwarfed by leaders like Shehbaz Sharif.
“Even the parliamentary delegation headed by Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani was oddly composed. This is why I stayed away from the meeting…”
Safi asks, “But the Leader of the Opposition in the Senate and chairman of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Raja Zafarul Haq and the party’s parliamentary leader in the Senate Mushahidullah Khan, attended the meeting.”
Sherry responded, “I have the greatest respect for the House of Sharifs. They too, like our party, believe in sexually transmitted democracy. Perhaps, considering their situation, where their perpetual leader, Nawaz Sharif is in prison. Not just in prison but he is not being allowed to go to London from treatment, they thought that they might be able get in a word to get relief for him.
“If you may have heard that Mushahidullah and Zafarul Haq said that they had conveyed Nawaz and Shehbaz’ s goodwill messages to the prince. According to them, MBS said that the Sharif brothers were very near to him and that he had a great respect for the Sharif family.
“Imagine, if Imran had invited our beloved leader, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. I bet that MBS would have kissed his hands; surely he knows that it was our immortal leader, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto who invited MBS’ uncle, King Faisal to Pakistan and even renamed Lyallpur after him.
“I mean, come on, Asif Zardari has been president of Pakistan.”
Safi asks, “Is there any fallout from this omission?”
Sherry declares, “You are saying omission! I say that it is a complete disaster. Not only it showed that there is no unity among the political parties for the betterment of the country and the state, but also the real leaders of the nation are missing.
“The prince himself is an international businessman, and he would have been delighted to meet our co-chairman, Mr. Asif Ali Zardari. They may have even done business deals on the go. I tell you that the crown prince wanted to meet the leaders from the opposition. He is not unaware of their business acumen. Like him, they too have investments in so many countries.
“If I would have gone there, I would have mentioned to him, my husband, Nadeem Hussain. You know he is president and Chief Executive Officer of the Tameer Microfinance Bank.
“Saleem, Imran Khan has simply told the prince that the opposition parties are not a part of the state.
“Of course, when the prince did not see us, he had to announce that the Saudis were waiting for the right leadership [to emerge in Pakistan].
“Saleem, you know that the crown prince said his country desired to see Pakistan a prosperous, stable and economically vibrant country.
“So how do you read this? Aren’t the signs so clear? He would have cherished it all his life, meeting with real leaders who know how to grow their own portfolios.
“Saleem, I tell you that Imran had something up his sleeve. While he has not said it but even his ministers were saying that we were kept away because one of us in jail, and the rest are facing trials.
“So you see what comes about as soon as MBS leaves. Shehbaz is placed on the non-fly list at the request of the interior ministry, which prevents him from traveling abroad for the next thirty days. And the in the case of fake accounts, the Supreme Court dismisses the review petitions submitted by us.
“We can only thank the now retired chief justice Saqib Nisar that he declared our beloved leader, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari innocent. He is such an obedient son.
“Saleem, simply tell me, is Imran Khan qualified to utilize the billions he has received without the expertise possessed by the Houses of the Zardaris and the Sharifs?”
