Khushk TV News’ star presenter Yaqut Vattay interviewed the former Senate chairman and senior Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Sen. Raza Rabbani
“My dear friend, Mr. Vattay let me make one thing … rather crystal clear that our party owns Sindh,” announced the senator.
“Senator, everyone acknowledges that PPP has owned Sindh for decades but does it permit you to craft your own rules?” asked Vattay.
Punching his desk forcefully, the senator declared, “Yes. Of course! We are only bound in allegiance to our party through our two chairmen, our beloved leaders Asif Ali Zardari and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
“You must have read some press reports that, according to them, I was flouting rules by smoking a cigar at a public space, during a meeting of the Senate’s standing committee on Rules, Procedures and Privileges.
“Did anyone note what the chairman of this committee Senator Azam Khan Mishakhel said? He wisely pointed out that the law is ‘always positive and permissive’. Mind you he is not from our party but represents the Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party.
“I only follow the example of our beloved leader … the genius of politics, President Asif Ali Zardari. Didn’t he chain-smoke while being examined by a court for money-laundering Rs. 35 billion? Did the judge have the guts to stop him? No. Never. Our PPP owns Sindh. We set the rules. Of course as my colleague, Sen. Mishakhel wisely pointed out that the law is ‘always positive and permissive’.”
Discerning that like all his party people, he too believed in the example of his leader Asif Zardari that they own all they survey and more, Vattay moved to the question he intended to start with, “Senator, you have asked that Prime Minister Imran Khan should not meet with the U.S. Secretary of State Michael Pompeo during his visit to Pakistan because his visit is part of American tactics to pressurize Pakistan into ‘doing more.’”
Seeing that the Senator wanted to interject, Vattay offered, “Senator please let me continue my question …”
The Senator boomed, “No Sir. It is our right to criticize everything and anything that Imran Khan does. He has no right to be where he is because he does not have the ruling genes. Only and only, our beloved leaders, the children of great martyr, the most beloved and honorable Benazir Bhutto and grandchildren of our nation’s greatest martyr, the ever-living Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Bilawal, Bakhtawar and Aseefa have these exclusive genes. Imran could not even give his cricketing genes to his two sons!
“Imran has snatched the bread out of our mouths. Yes, our party owns Sindh and we will seek to extract the most out of it. Imran has deprived us of drawing our due … our right of getting rewarded from the entire country for our public service.
“Just look at what he has done to our dear friend prime minister Nawaz Sharif… Adiala Jail. I miss the days when our dear leader Asif Zardari and Nawaz Sharif extracted the cash in tandem. You can’t imagine, how much the real estate markets in U.K. Europe and America are missing their favors.”
“Honorable Senator, dare I ask that did you exercise the same right of questioning when your leader Asif Zardari was ruling?
“Sir, may I also ask that you or anyone from your party question your dear and beloved leaders, Asif Zardari and Benazir Bhutto when they were spending about half-a-million dollars on lobbying in Washington, D.C. and finally attained their objective of getting President George W. Bush to pressure the then President Musharraf to pardon them and your 8,000 party leaders and members for breaking the laws. Didn’t the favors done by President Bush entail their price?” submitted Vattay.
A visibly angered Senator Rabbani screamed, “Our party has given the blood of its leaders … Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and his daughter, Benazir. We will never question our leaders on any account. They deserve every penny they collect for their public service. Not just I but indeed every member of our party stands to serve our leaders Asif Zardari, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Bakhtawar Bhutto Zardari, and Aseefa Bhutto Zardari.
“Not only I but also our Senator Sherry Rehman has offered her advice to Imran.”
Never to get overwhelmed, Vattay continued his questioning, “Senator, did you or any of your party leaders offer such criticism or advice, when your government was doing the American will?
“Isn’t it a fact that the crisis inherited by Imran Khan, which today is giving the Americans these pressurization opportunities, has been created by your leadership and the party of your friend Nawaz Sharif””?
Now an even angrier Senator Rabbani banged his desk and shouted, “Stop questioning me and our my leaders, never forget that owning Sindh is owning it all.”
