Eng. Ahmed Bin Fahd Al-Mazeed, CEO of the General Authority for Culture (GAC), and Ahmed Al-Khatib, head of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority, are briefing Prince Mohammad Bin Salman, Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, who is also First Deputy Prime Minister, President of the Council for Economic and Development Affairs and Minister of Defense, on the nearly $35 billion “Quality of Life Program 2020” on May 3.
The program being run by his Council for Economic and Development Affairs is one of the vision realization programs whose targets include the opening of 300 movie theaters with some 2,000 screens by 2030.
The Prince declares, “I will make Saudi Arabia the culture and entertainment hub of the Arab and Muslim world. Spare no cash, I have to win. Saudi Arabia has to come up to the modernization demands of our benefactors, especially our dearest President Trump, Abu Ivanka, and of course our original benefactor, the U.K.
“Both of you did a good job in inviting American film star Katie Holmes and British actor-and-director Idris Elba.”
“Thank you, Your Royal Highness for the kind comments. Under your kind command, we are marching toward the goal of creating a true cultural industry, with theatres, cinemas and training centers,” said al-Mazeed.
“Indeed, it was good job. We need to aim higher. Like Elba’s Twitter following is of more than 2.5 million, Kim Kardeshian’s Twitter numbers are 20 million. We need to get her over here soon.”
“Your Highness, we project that the program will generate 300,000 jobs by 2020,” chimed in Al-Mazeed.
“It will more because the entertainment industry will spawn other jobs too like our young folks will spend more on things such as fashion, cosmetics, plus, there will health sector jobs, especially in mental health, and of course health issues spawned by reduced physical activity. I have heard that in U.S. with all the thrills being produced by this huge entertainment base, everyone requires a psychiatrist.
“So that is later, but now we need to setup special employment offices in America and England to recruit the right people for these 300,000 jobs. You can’t run a bigger than Hollywood industry with third and fourth world employees!”
“Yes, Your Highness, with the development of different lifestyles affected by your enlightened entertainment policy, there will be a huge rise in jobs in so many sectors,” offered Al-Khatib.
“We have already taken Saudi Arabia into the 23rd century in the 21st century! Just see what one of my cousin’s is doing. Princess Lulwah Al-Faisal, vice chair of the board of trustees and general supervisor of Effat University, has established the Visual and Digital Production Department. This will encourage, our Saudis to become movie and theater producers, actors, dancers, and singers. What noble professions!
“Certainly, she is much far-sighted. She started this project five years earlier and her graduates are coming up now.”
“Masha Allah, Your Royal Highness. Our House of Saud is supremely blessed. Your Royal Highness, you have set the goal to make at least three Saudi cities in the list of the top 100 cities in the world to live in by 2030, but under your sublime command, Your Royal Highness, we will achieve higher results,” declared Al-Khatib.
“Our media consultants in London, Consulum, offered me a comparison that King Henry IV of France once said, ‘I want there to be no peasant in my realm so poor that he will not have a chicken in his pot every Sunday. Our goal in Saudi Arabia is to have a movie theater seat for every Saudi!
“The Consulum people also cited from Matthew 22:21 from their Bible that Jesus ‘alayhi as salam, said ‘Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s …’ and they also quoted from the book, Romans 13:1 ‘Let every person be in subjection to the governing authorities…’
“They told me that here Caesar represents our benefactors…”
His father, King Salman who was also listening to the report, intruded, “My so, you mean Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, the hotel with the casino! I haven’t been there in ages … but I always gave there more than what was due to Caesar!”
“Yes, my dear father, I will also get a Caesars Palace in all of our cities. I would say let a million flowers bloom from entertainment!”
“Ya salaam, my son, you are a genius, your million flowers blooming from entertainment will strengthen the House of Saud, when our people will are for nothing and only live and die for entertainment under our wise command!”
