It is all in the Genes

Ramadan is a not favorite time to spend in Pakistan, especially when the rules allow travelers to skip fasting.

An opinion column in The News, Karachi, published on June 20, 2017 written by Hussain H. Zaidi and titled “The PPP’s sinking ship,” promoted the former and 11th President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari to make a short trip to Karachi.

His inner circle is assembled at the Bilawal House. Besides his son, Bilawal, and daughters Bakhtawar and Assefa, and sisters Faryal Talpur and Azra Pechuho, there is Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Khurshid Shah, the Leader of the Opposition in the Senate Aitizaz Ahsan, the Sind Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and the ever-trusted Sen. Sherry Rahman.

The former President holding up the June 20 edition of The News newspaper from Karachi, asks, “Who is this Zaidi … this Hussain Zaidi … probably a self-hating Shia? Didn’t he hear what, our now estranged friend, Zulfiqar Mirza said that both he and I are committed Shia? And that was just last year.

“And Shaheed Bibi always prayed with a turbah from Karbala for her sajdah. Her’s was a small tablet that bore the Farsi inscription, Turbat A’la Mal a Karbala (The Highest Quality Land Is From Karbala).

“And this Zaidi seems to be talking like he is an insider. What nonsense about our ship sinking!

“How do you call our party a ‘sinking ship’ when I am the only Pakistani to have completed the five-year presidential term. We rule Sind in full glory. The only ship that seems to have sunk is that of our friend Altaf Husain.

“Doesn’t this Zaidi remember that only in January this year, I attended the inauguration of President Trump?

“Tell me how is the PPP ship sinking when God has solved the Ghinwa problem for us. Her only weapon was Zulfikar Bhutto, Jr. and he has opted to become a gay artiste in San Francisco.

“Sind remains our fiefdom. We have our Syed Murad Ali Shah, the most able heir to our respected Syed Qaim Ali Shah.

“This is real measure of our strength when there are no civic services, no development work, no health services, and Bilawal and I visit here only once in while but our control of Sindh remains settled. It was settled when our beloved leader Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto … Sayin Bhutto arose from Sind.

“Sherry did you see that even this Zaidi is admitting that the PPP government completed its five-year term (2008-2013), becoming the first democratically-elected government in Pakistan to do so.

“Aitizaz Ahsan note that the PPP is the first democratically-elected government in Pakistan to do so … to complete its five-year term.

“Ruling Pakistan is the Bhutto-Zardari genes. No one can take from us. It will be Bilawal, and Bakhtawar and Assefa in their turns.

“My dears, all these talk shows are creating hot air for their ratings. They are saying that our party has lost people like former federal ministers Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan, Nazar Muhammad Gondal, Imtiaz Safdar Warraich and Nawabzada Ghazanfar Gul.

“Were they born in PPP?

“Now there is so much talk about Babar Awan. Even his PhD in criminal law was from the diploma mill Monticello University based in Hawaii. Even then Shaheed Bibi had appointed him Minister for Parliamentary Affairs as well as the Law Minister in November 2008. This was despite the fact that he was among those who had distributed sweets when General Zia hanged Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.

“It was Shaheed Bibi’s sagacious decision although she knew that initially he was affiliated with Islami Jamiat Talba during his student life and then the Pakistan Muslim League under the Zia regime.

“This man is lucky! Aitzaz, you know how this Babar Awan used to attack Imran Khan and now the same Imran Khan is his leader!

“Indeed, more defections will take place from our party as this Supreme Court Panama case has made Imran very popular.

“But this is Asif Ali Zardari who knows how to handle such situations.

“Tonight, I am going to re-read Shaheed BiBi’s will because I recall that she wanted me too to change my name to Asif Bhutto Zardari.

“PPP Khappay! Bhutto-Zardari Khappay.”
